NEWS RELEASE - November 12, 2012

The Heceta Water District received an award for outstanding performance from the Oregon Health Authority. The Health Authority, through it's Drinking Water Service, conducts on-site reviews of all public water providers. Some of the elements they inspect are the provider's water source, treatment, storage facility, distribution system, operation and maintenance procedures, water monitoring, and system management. As a result of this review, Heceta Water District was awarded the designation of Outstanding Performer this year.

"The District employees have worked very hard over the last few years," said President Bob Hursh, "and this award is recognition of their continuing effort and commitment to providing safe drinking water for our customers."

"Few water providers on the Oregon coast have earned this award," said District Manager Scott Meyer, "so we're understandably very proud." He went on to give some of the credit to the District Commissioners; "They have been supportive of our efforts to make operational and structural improvements in the District. Their willingness to make difficult budgeting decisions has given the District the ability to continue to produce high quality drinking water."

NEWS RELEASE - August 12, 2011

"Heceta Water District has received a very low interest loan to repair key infrastructure in the water system, along with almost a three quarters-million dollar grant to offset part of the loan,” said Heceta Water District General Manager Scott Meyer. On August 12, 2011, Heceta Water District was awarded a $1.8 million dollar loan through the Safe Drinking Water Revolving Loan Fund provided through the Oregon Water Authority and the Infrastructure Finance Authority. The loan will be used to repair key infrastructure that is in need of repair in the north area of the district. According to Meyer, the loan structure is quite attractive - carrying a very low 1% interest rate as well as a grant for $723,000 that will reduce the total amount of the loan from $1.8 million to approximately $1.1 million.

"Although the loan process took longer than anticipated, it is a good deal for our customers." said Meyer, "We really need to thank the Board of Commissioners, it was their diligence that made this happen." "In 2009, the commissioners increased rates and weathered a recall during their effort to achieve the district’s goals of being able to replace key components in the north part of the district,” commented Meyer, "The loan will be paid back through the recently enacted rate increase, and no new rate increases are expected to be needed to pay back the loan. "Our General Manager really deserves most of the credit for obtaining this loan for the District," said Heceta Board President, Bob Hursh, "He located the funding source, brought it to the Board's attention, and did all the work getting the loan approved."
